It's a Helluva Town: Roberta Brandes Gratz in Conversation with Anthony Wood & Amy Freitag
Roberta Brandes Gratz is a noted urbanist and journalist, as well as a longtime Preservation League Trustee. Her newest book, It’s a Helluva Town: Joan K. Davidson, the J. M. Kaplan Fund, and the Fight for a Better New York, explores the profound impact of Joan K. Davidson and her work through her family fund. The League is proud to count the J.M. Kaplan Fund as one of our earliest funders. Over its 72-year history, the Fund has awarded $250 million to support efforts related to civil liberties, human rights, the arts, and heritage conservation, and the environment. The book tells a captivating story about an important woman and the Fund she ran for so many years. The League was excited to invite Roberta to do an author talk as part of our Preservation Book Club, and we were thrilled that she could be joined in conversation by Anthony Wood and Amy Freitag. Anthony Wood previously served as the Chief Program Officer of the J.M. Kaplan Fund and is a former Chairman of our Board of Trustees and Amy Freitag is the current Executive Director of the J.M. Kaplan Fund. It was a great conversation — and in case you missed it, you can watch the recording right here.
