Brooks-Park Winter Hike

  • Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center Eastside Ct & Neck Path Springs, NY 11937 (map)

The Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center (BPANC) is pleased to announce a collaboration with the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society (EHTPS).

We invite all nature and art lovers in our community to explore the 11-acre property that was the residence and studios of American Abstract Expressionist painters James Brooks and Charlotte Park.

BPANC members will present a brief presentation about the history of the property followed by a one-to-two mile hike through the adjacent trails led by Irwin Levy of EHTPS.

Visit the home, studios, and woodlands property of the artists, James Brooks and Charlotte Park, whose contribution to American art remains vital to our cultural history. Explore the eleven unspoiled acres on which they lived and worked and then join us for a hike through the adjacent trail system. We'll learn about the artists' impact on the Springs community where so many artists of The New York School thrived in the mid-twentieth century, paving the way for the vibrant artist colony that it remains today.

The mission of the Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center is to reimagine the residence, cottage, and two art studios on this Town-owned property. A dedicated management committee is in place, many of whom will join us to discuss the vision and restoration of this historic place where our community will be invited to enjoy the natural solitude, the rich background of this site, and diverse and inclusive programming that will inspire visitors. The Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center will become part of an unparalleled constellation of artists' homes and studios with public access in Springs, among them The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, The Arts Center at Duck Creek, and The Leiber Collection.
