One of the preservationist’s most common cry is to ‘Save Those Wood Windows!’ Understanding how to implement vital maintenance and repair of wood windows conserves their functionality and helps preserves a building’s historic character. Through this workshop, attendees will gain crucial insight and hands-on experience in saving wood windows from an expert. Join AARCH at Essex’s iconic octagonal Boquet Schoolhouse for this hands-on workshop to learn how to repair, restore, and preserve wood windows with experienced window restoration specialist, Kurt Riegel. Participants will practice window restoration techniques as well as learn about proper maintenance for extending the life of historic windows. Techniques covered in this workshop include properly removing wood sashes, repairing, and replacing deteriorated sash pieces, using epoxy and Dutchman’s, paint stripping and sanding, glazing, and painting. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of basic window parts, how they function, how to better maintain them to prevent decay, and how to make them more energy efficient.

This workshop is led by Kurt Riegel, founder of Riegel Restoration. The workshop will begin at 9 AM and ends around 4 PM.
