The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 sparked the construction of numerous lateral canals throughout New York State, each with their own unique histories. This roundtable, featuring experts, will examine three such canals, the Chemung, Chenango, and Genesee Valley Canal, looking at their similarities and differences while having an engaging exchange on New York canals. The discussion will involve experts from the Chenango Canal Cottage Museum, and the Erie Canal Museum, along with Gary Emerson, author of A Link in the Great Chain: A History of the Chemung Canal.
